The Hocking Hills dining scene has evolved well beyond the gas station sandwiches and chain restaurants that defined it a decade ago. A genuine food culture has emerged — farm-to-table restaurants, craft breweries, a student-run fine dining room, and a growing roster of food trucks. Combined with full-kitchen cabins that make self-catering easy, visitors have real options at every price point.
Fine Dining and Farm-to-Table
Kindred Spirits at the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls is consistently ranked the best restaurant in the region. The scratch kitchen occupies an original 1840s log cabin seating 45 with an intimate open-kitchen format. Seasonal, locally sourced menu — bistro steak, pan-seared salmon, seared scallops, craft cocktails. Open for breakfast daily and dinner nightly. Reservations strongly recommended. Open to the public (you do not need to be an inn guest).
Glenlaurel, A Scottish Inn & Cottages (Rockbridge) offers the most formal dining in the region: a six-course prix fixe dinner (seven courses on Saturday) in a candlelit room, occasionally with a bagpiper. Business casual dress code enforced after 5 PM. Reservations required 24–72 hours ahead. Primarily for inn guests but public seats available on select evenings.
Rock House Restaurant & Pub inside the Hocking Hills Lodge (opened fall 2022). Contemporary American lodge cuisine under Chef Matt Rapposelli — pork belly eggs Benedict, a half-pound Lodge Burger, 14 oz ribeye, hand-battered catfish. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Old Man's Cave area. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. Dinner reservations via OpenTable or phone.
Rhapsody Music & Dining (18 Public Square, Nelsonville) is run by Hocking College's Culinary Arts program — a live learning lab serving Appalachian farm-to-table cuisine. Jazz Night every 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesday. Live music Friday–Saturday. Entrées $21–$50. TripAdvisor 4.5/5, ranked #1 in Nelsonville. Open Wednesday–Saturday for dinner starting at 5 PM.
